Handmade is the way to go!

So I was shopping in Target yesterday...{who doesn't love that store!!} and I was looking thru the jewelry and hair accessories.  I'm trying to get a bit more fashiony and have always loved the cute headbands {can't wear...they give me a headache}, and the flowers you can clip in your hair.  But really.....almost $5 for a measly flower that is the size of a half dollar and is fraying??  

That sent me in search of a way to make my own, and this is what I came up with:

I found the tutorial for the fabric flowers on Blair's site.  I think I may have found a new project that will take up a bit of my time...I have so many friends that I'm sure would love one!

Before sewing today, I just had to take a walk thru Mom's garden!  The joy of Spring and new blooms!

New Project in the Works!

Yes...another new project is now in the works!  Surprising??  Shouldn't be....

I found some of the Authentic line by Sweetwater while on a little shopping trip with mom, grandma and other quilty friends to Country Threads, and I thought "such awesome fabric to use for my Pure Romance quilt!"  That's right, I'm one who can find any reason to make a quilt, and I figured since I am a consultant, why not make a quilt with that theme!  So I was on the lookout for blacks and pinks....and here's what I have after Country Threads and a little Quilt Cove stop!

I am going to make a hedgerow quilt with this beautiful fabric and can't wait to get going on it!  I've started cutting a bit, just have so many others on the plate as well!  

Totally awesome Hubby both moms flowers this weekend for no reason!  He also got me some gorgeous Calla Lilies this weekend!  Such a sweetheart he is!

A little gift

Was waiting for me when I got home today!



I received my tea towel and recipe from Esther in the mail today for our Charming Girls' Quilt Club exchange. Absolutely adorable!



The recipe is for Key Lime Pie, which my husband is quite a fan of! So she must have had him in mind for the exchange as well ;o)

Now I just hope she likes the one I sent her as I love the one I got!

I can just feel it!!

I feel good, it's a gorgeous sunny day outside, and I got to sleep in! When I did finally wake up, the hubby had just gotten home from the Farmer's Market with a large, beautiful bouquet of flowers! What a wonderful way to start a day, right?? I knew he was a good one! Aren't they simply grand?? And such a variety! I guess they were grown not too far from our house either, he said he has seen the area that the woman was talking about that they were from. Nothing like supporting local businesses! And really, who wouldn't have a good day after seeing this??

*Make a few more coasters - love how quick they are!
*Run a few errands
*Get together with the girls for a little research trip! We're heading off to a couple tattoo shops to check things out. I have been waiting 8 years to do this, and I think I finally have the courage and all!
*And whatever else may come up!

Last finish of July!!

I finished one last project in July!

This beautiful little octagonal table topper using fabrics from Soiree by Lila Tueller for Moda. It is a gorgeous line of fabric, and I absolutely fell in love with it on our trip. And you know the rest...just had to have it and make something with it! I must say, this was my first time using a stripe as the binding, and I love, love, love it!! I will possibly have to use more stripes in the future :o)

Sunday Stash #1 & the day's events

I've seen many others doing the "Sunday Stash" post on their blogs, so I decided to throw one out there for today:


I found this fabric at JoAnn's in the remnant bin, and fell in love with it! I am not a fan of sushi, in fact it pretty much grosses me out, but the colors are great! I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for, maybe an apron or some pot holders, but for now it is just sitting in my fabric bin.


Today was a day of shopping for pots and flowers and planting. For Mother's Day, the hubby and I gave mom money to purchase flowers this year, and I offered to help her plant them all. We got all of the flowers for her pots and the front of the house, but will have to do more planting later on the side of the house and back in her garden. The parents are getting a few trees taken out of the back that are dead, and she didn't want to do the planting just yet. That will be another weekend. What we did today turned out beautiful though! I also got some flowers and new pots for my house (and some herbs, I love cooking with fresh herbs!).



I'm now doing a bit of relaxing watching a movie and getting ready to work on a few flowers. Happy crafting!

Home again!

We are finally home after a long day of riding in the car and spending time with family.

My husband's cousin is home for a bit on leave from the Navy, so we all got together to see him up at their family farm. It was good to see family again, and turned out to be a beautiful day to sit out and enjoy the company. And as I had said in the previous post, it was quite a trip there and back, 2 hours one way. So needless to say, I got a bit of sewing done on my batik flowers for my Grandmother's Flower Garden! I finished 3 flowers with a 4th started!



And as I'm sure you all know already, I absolutely love sunrises and sunsets, and there was a gorgeous one on the way home!



Now to watch some tv, SNL, and make my popcorn!

Happy Weekend!

Finally....the weekend is here! Its been a long week, and let me tell you, I was ready for this 3-day weekend! It's Memorial Day weekend, and with this weekend comes the beginning of summer :o)

It should be a rather relaxing weekend without too much planned. Heading to my husband's family get-together today, and its a 2-hour drive to his aunt and uncle's farm. At first I was thinking....really, 2 hours each way, but then I realized, perfect time to work on my flowers!! So hopefully I'll be able to get quite a bit further on that little trip with 4 hours of sew time. I'll post tonight when I get home what all I got finished (I'm hoping its a lot!).

The rest of my mini vacation will be consisting of relaxing, some reading, some sewing, and some laying out in the sun! A bit of golfing and planting may get thrown in there as well. So all in all, it should be a rather productive, and lovely weekend, just what I've been needing!

TGIF!!

TFIG! I don't think I could say it any louder after the week I've had...

• the weather has been so so, typical May I suppose
• its been a crampy week
• we had some more lay-offs at work
• its been gloomy the past two days
• I don't feel like I am making much progress on any of my projects
• longer commutes to work because of construction don't start a morning off good
• and I thought Wednesday was Friday all day, just to realize that I had two days left for it to actually be Friday

But thankfully, we finally made it! And I had golf to look forward to today! Granted, it wasn't the best weather (it was all cloudy- and I mean dark clouds, not fluffy white ones, and sprinkled a bit of the play), but it was nice to leave work a little early and get outside! After we finished the rain came in sheets for a bit, but then opened up to a sunset of beautiful blues, pinks & purples!

Now here I am, relaxing, working on some batik flowers, thinking of all the other projects I am pushing to finish! Happy crafting/sewing!

Tuesday Night Sewing Date

Every Tuesday I head to Mom's for our Tuesday Night Sewing Date since dad and my hubby are both busy that night. Its our chance for some girl time, and to do some crafting!

Well tonight, we didn't exactly so, but we did get a bit creative! I'm going to apologize now, the photos were taken with my phone (my new phone! how exciting!), so they aren't the best, but hey, they're something!

Anywho, mom's school is having a spaghetti dinner fundraiser later this week and mom volunteered to do the table decorations. She went and got 36 red geraniums, and we prettied them up a bit!

Plus a bit of black table cloth material, ribbon and tape...

Equals beautiful gereniums for the center of the tables!

And that would be our project of the evening for this Tuesday! I must say, I am getting a bit of hand sewing in here tonight while watching the news with my hubby! Need my fix of sewing!
