Oh happy day! (yesterday..)

So there isn't really too much exciting going on here lately. I've been working like crazy on my batik Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt though! Oh, and I got an early birthday present last night! My birthday is the end of June and the hubby decided to take me to shop for one of my gifts early. He wouldn't tell me where we were going, or what we were looking for, so off we went in the car.

We drove and drove, and ended up at Golf Galaxy! If you've been reading my blog, you know I'm a golfer (not good by any means, but I'm working my way to the Pros *giggle*). I got to pick out some golf shoes! Now to some, this may not seem like a very exciting gift, but we go golfing at least once every other week or so, if not more, and what kind of golfer would I be without golf shoes?! I'm heading straight towards the Pros now! I was on the hunt for a pair that didn't 'look' like golf shoes, and had enough support for me, blasted flat feet, argh. And let me tell you, I found a sexy pair! Beautiful FootJoy shoes, with great support, black and white with fuschia laces! Usually I'm not too much of a pink girl, but I am totally a statement piece girl! Yes, I know, even when I'm out enjoying the great sport of golf.

Tuesday Night Sewing Date

Happy Tuesday!

Tonight's sewing date consisted of moving some of mom's school files, and of course, some sewing! The project of the evening was to make a couple fleece blankets with the satin binding to replace a couple other well-used and much loved blankets.





Not going to lie, the blankets are for me. Coming up to my "half-century" mark, (as the hubby and I like to call it), I figured it was about time to replace the blankets that I have slept with since I was a baby. Am I ashamed to admit I still sleep with a blanket? NOPE! I mean, come on, it's not like I carry it around with me. And its not something I've been able to give up all that easily (trust me, Mom and Grandma have tried), its the security and comfort, you know? I kind of like to compare it to coffee, not something you can just give up all that easily either. And like I told mom, I'm sure there are many "closet blanket-ers" out there, you just don't know who they are!

Anywho, I'm off to check out a couple of my favorite blogs, and cut some hexagons! Have a fabulously crafty evening!

Home again!

We are finally home after a long day of riding in the car and spending time with family.

My husband's cousin is home for a bit on leave from the Navy, so we all got together to see him up at their family farm. It was good to see family again, and turned out to be a beautiful day to sit out and enjoy the company. And as I had said in the previous post, it was quite a trip there and back, 2 hours one way. So needless to say, I got a bit of sewing done on my batik flowers for my Grandmother's Flower Garden! I finished 3 flowers with a 4th started!



And as I'm sure you all know already, I absolutely love sunrises and sunsets, and there was a gorgeous one on the way home!



Now to watch some tv, SNL, and make my popcorn!

Thursday Experiment

So I decided to do a little experiment tonight....

Since I don't have much going tonight, and the hubby and I are just hanging out watching a movie, I figured I would find out the answer to a question I've been asked many times before:

"How long does it really take you to make on of your little flowers?"

Well, I started with my 7 basted hexagons and a bit of thread....

And 55 minutes later, I ended up with this:

An odd one...

Today was quite the odd day. I'm sure part of it was just because it wasn't my usual schedule and threw me off a bit.

It all started with getting up and getting ready for work as usual, but then I sat here for a bit until I had to leave. I'm not used to sitting around in the morning before heading out. But today I ended up going back to my old high school to speak to the Interior Design class (a class that I took many years ago). After the presentation, I headed in to work, which meant I drove to work. I must admit, not too bad, but thats only because rush-hour was over. Then we had our monthly meeting at work with a potluck lunch. And the rest of the day was playing catch up. Once the day was over, that only meant having to walk back to my car, which was parked 15 minutes away so I got cheaper parking, and driving home. I was reminded again why I do not drive to work everyday...

All in all, it was a good day, just felt a bit off. But now I'm home, relaxing, and doing some hand sewing! Ever have one of those days?

A 'lil bit of storage, and a happy day!

Hello there! Robyn over at The Great Hexagon Quilt-Along Too has thrown the question out there as to how people stored there hexagons, and just thought I would share:

1. What do you use to carry your hexies around in?
I keep all of unfinished hexies in a little plastic bin, big enough to hold my hexies, pins, papers, thread, and needles; but small enough to travel with.

2. How do you store them when you are not using them??
My finished flowers are in a ziplock baggy, and those that I've connected already are just sitting on the table.

Also, some great news today! My application to take the big certification test in my industry has been put in the mail (5 days before my little deadline I set for myself), I have a half-day of PTO saved up (finally! I've been negative since....at least October), and a job here at work that we have been waiting to hear about whether or not we have submitted the winning bid finally had an answer come through today, and we got it (we've only been waiting two weeks to hear)! Winning that job is awesome, because it means hopefully no more lay-offs! Many of us were affraid if we didn't get it, there would be more people let go. Thankfully that doesn't seem to be lurking on the horizon now! Okay, no more news at the moment, I may be back tonight with another post, but we shall see...

Today was a productive day!

I must say I feel pretty productive today! We moved into our house last summer, and we had that one room in the house that I'm sure many others have, the 'catch-all room'. There were boxes in there that I hadn't unpacked since bringing them in the house and dropping them in that room. So today, I spent 5 hours cleaning (with help from Salami. Thank you much!). It looks so much better, and now I can craft much, much more! It also has been taken over as my craft room :o) , so it was time to get it cleaned up. Then had dinner, went on the weekend grocery run, and worked on these little babies!


Since I had so many hexagons cut, I decided today would be a basting day (and found the perfect little basket to keep them in when cleaning!), and am now working to turn all the hexagons into my batik flowers! These things are so addictive! Yep, I would say I got quite a bit done today! Gotta love days like this!

* Oh, and I was just curious of how many flowers and hexies that I had done. Wow, was I ever surprised! I have finished 48 flowers, and have over 500 hexies cut and done! Guess I've been a bit more addicted than I thought...

Project of the night....

...is my Feed Sack Flower Garden! I decided to take a little break from the Batik Flower Garden (mainly because I'm running out of my hand quilting thread and haven't gotten more yet). I finished one flower tonight, and am now working on tracing and cutting a bunch, next (probably not tonight) I'll baste a whole group. After basting, I'll be off making flowers!! I must say that I love these fabrics, but am not so excited about the size of the flowers to work with. After working so long with the 2" Batik hexagons, switching to the 3" hexagons is a bit of a change!



I am still loving how this quilt is turning out!! Just wish that I was a bit further! I can get a bit impatient at times....

Well, back to the flowers with my drink and snack of choice (Dr. Pepper and popcorn, the snack of champions!), and all the fun blogs on my computer! Happy crafting!!
